Many boaters and water enthusiasts were surprised to find a manatee floating in the waters in Flag Harbor in St. Leonard and most onlookers were concerned about the animal's well being. Residing in an area near boat traffic can put a manatee in danger of being hit by boat propellers whether that boat is stationary and in the midst of being covered in boat polisher or whether it's moving with propellers twisting. The local authorities suggested that the warm water and general location of the animal posed no danger to it and that local boaters would be advised to be careful.
