Currently, Groupon is the most popular group-couponing provider but there are a significant number of companies that have jumped into the fray alongside the coupon giant by using a Groupon clone software. It's been suggested however that Groupon's technology may reside in the realm of a gift certificate which would make the Groupon method of selling illegal in Connecticut since that state has a policy that suggests gift certificates sold in that state cannot have an expiration date.  Groupon has of course responded by suggesting that it would work with the state to ensure that the Groupon business model was not in violation of any Connecticut laws.
