It always seems as though there's a new food being touted as a way in which a person can improve his or her heart health or reduce the risk for various cardiovascular issues and lately the rumor has been circulating that occasionally eating chocolate has resulted in some people seeing more positive readings on cardiovascular equipment and experiencing a significantly lower risk for cardiovascular disease. Interestingly, consumption of chocolate was also seemingly linked to a lower risk of stroke. The research associated with the current findings is in its early stages but scientists seem excited about the initial results.

Some medical professionals are calling for a test that employs pulse oximeters to test the oxygenation in blood in newborns as a way to detect potential birth defects that would allow doctors to test children for potential complications that would require things like heart defects which might otherwise not present in the very early hours after birth and not become apparent until a child has been taken home. The proposal is part of a request in the state of Wisconsin that would be only the second in the nation, after New Jersey, to require the test if the proposal was accepted and passed into law.
